Introduction to seed paper
Seed paper is a sustainable alternative to traditional paper, created to literally bring your message to life. The recipient reads the card, plants it in the garden afterwards, and is surprised by a small garden full of flowers, herbs, or vegetables, creating food for bees, butterflies, and other pollinators.

Choose the right seed paper for your project
All paper types and seeds are tested four times a year in our test gardens with positive results. This way, you can be sure you are choosing reliable quality. We make sure the paper not only looks beautiful and feels premium, but also grows successfully. From flyers, invitations, and business cards to sturdy cards and premium print products, every paper type has its own character and application. This allows you to choose the perfect product for your message and project.

Sustainability

Sustainability is important to us in every part of the process. That is why we would like to share what we already do well and what we continue to improve.

What we already do

• Our product is not perfect, but it is better. Seed paper is made from 100% recycled paper, which means no new trees need to be cut down. We work together with carefully selected producers who match our values and long-term vision on sustainability and responsibility.
• Sustainability profile of our 120 g/m² seed paper. This paper is produced by a Dutch manufacturer that works together with a social workplace for people with a distance to the labour market. The seed paper is created by combining two layers of recycled paper with seeds in between. Potato starch is used as a natural glue. All seeds used are 100% GMO-free (certificate available on request).
• Sustainability profile of our 200 g/m² seed paper. This paper is produced in India. The manufacturer provides good working conditions, fair wages, and does not discriminate. The seed paper is handmade from 100% cotton waste without chemicals. All summer flower seeds used in this seed paper are 100% GMO-free.
• Sustainability profile of our PREMIUM 250 g/m² seed paper. Our supplier in South Africa is a social enterprise that collects waste paper from local communities, such as schools, and transforms it by hand into paper pulp. No bleach or harmful chemicals are used, only water. The seed paper is handmade and naturally airdried. We compensate the CO₂ emissions caused by transport through Trees for All (certificate available on request). The seeds come from the EU and are safe for the European region. A phytosanitary
  certificate is available on request. The first organic seed added to our assortment is the poppy seed.
• All seeds are GMO-free. All seeds used in our seed paper are free from genetically modified organisms (GMOs). Certificates are available on request.
• We know exactly where our seeds come from. We carefully select our seed suppliers and know exactly where our seeds originate from (certificate available on request).
• Environmentally friendly ink. We only use water-based ink that is 100% biodegradable.
• Sustainable production. We print the papers and do not destroy the seeds.
• Recyclable packaging. Our packaging is made from 70% recycled material and is fully recyclable after use.

Design guidelines

Designing for seed paper works a little differently than traditional paper. Because of the recycled materials and the seeds inside the paper, seed paper is printed on special printers. This means your design needs a bit more attention to ensure a clean and beautiful print result without streaks.

Checklist

1. Have you selected the correct format for your design?
2. Leave 60% white space in your design. Avoid large solid areas, no full background colours, and avoid 100% ink coverage.
3. Choose the correct file format. Your design should be saved in high resolution and in one of the following formats to ensure a sharp print result: PDF, PNG, or JPEG.

Better to avoid

Borders in the design
Because seed paper is not perfectly straight and can slightly shift in the printer, a variation of 1-3 mm is unavoidable. When using borders, this variation becomes more visible and can make the print appear misaligned.

Thin fonts
Very thin fonts may disappear into the paper texture. Choose a clear and readable font.

Light grey text
Light grey colours may fade into the paper. We recommend using a darker shade for better readability.

What works well?

QR codes
Use a minimum size of 2.5 x 2.5 cm and choose a dark colour to ensure good scanability.

Photos
Photos are possible, but avoid large full-colour areas. Please note that seeds may appear inside faces or detailed parts of the image, which can create an unexpected effect. Unfortunately, this cannot be adjusted.

Bleed in the design
Does your design include bleed? Add an extra 5 mm on all sides of the artwork and extend the design into this area. Your design will be printed on a larger sheet and trimmed afterwards, allowing the artwork to continue nicely to the edges. More information on bleed.

Good to know

• All paper types are off-white or beige rather than bright white. This is due to the use of recycled materials without chemicals. Colours may therefore appear slightly different than expected. Tip: make colours slightly darker.
• Because seed paper is not perfectly straight and may shift slightly during printing, a variation of 1-3 mm is unavoidable.
• Due to the seeds inside the paper, ink can sometimes collect around a seed, which may occasionally create a small streak in the design.

Planting instructions
You are using a special type of paper, and the recipient should know that too. Make sure to include planting instructions or a reference to seed paper in your design.
